Arles is an ancient city - its theatre and arena date from the first century BC and bear testament to its age. Other ancient monuments dot the town. The cryptoporticus, the thermae of Constantine, the forum, the alyscamps and the circus. Arles is divided into two by the Rhone. On the left bank lies the original town, whilst the Trinquetaille district occupies the right bank. A walk along the Boulevard des Lices will take you to the Place de la Republique and its obelisk.
