Orleans is located on the Loire. On the other side of the river lies the Orleans-La Source district, which is the new town. The flower park of Orleans-La Source covers 35 hectares and is known all over the world. At the heart of Orleans, on the place du Martroi, stands the monumental equestrian statue of Joan of Arc. The cathedral of the Holy Cross, which was destroyed during the wars of religion, was rebuilt thanks to Henri IV. Every year in the month of May, Orleans celebrates the victory of Joan of Arc over the English in the Joan of Arc festival, which is the greatest popular event of the town.
