To begin with, here are the places located on a map:

Traditional spots

If you are looking for tradition and authenticity this address will quickly convince you.

Nicknamed the oldest pastry shop in Paris, this shop was originally owned by Nicolas Stohrer, the King of Poland’s pastry chef. In 1725, he moved to Paris to follow his daughter Marie, who became the wife of Louis XV.

And since then, they have never ceased to delight the finest Parisian palates. A must-have in Paris.

We love: Their unrivaled Paris-Brest, a dessert made with a praline mousse cream with Piedmont hazelnuts.

Du Pain et des Idées

̶ THE BELLE ÉPOQUE SHOP

34 rue Yves Toudic (Paris 10e)

Painted glass ceilings, beveled mirrors… this shop also looks very old. Indeed, this bakery has been set up in 1870.

First closed for a while, then reopened in 2002 by Christophe Vasseur, crowned Best Baker in Paris, this shop is a sure bet for all French Desserts aficionados.

Take a trip back to this sumptuous Belle Époque setting while enjoying its tasty sweets.

We love: Their pistachio-chocolate “snail”, which is constantly being re-posted on the web as it is so popular with Instagramers.

Pâtisserie du Panthéon

̶ By SÉBASTIEN DEGARDIN

200 rue Saint-Jacques, (Paris 5e)

Well, this one has been classified as traditional, but in fact the real creed of its chef is to shake up traditional pastry by favoring lightness and a not-too-sweet flavor.

On the menu you can choose between: an airy Mont Blanc with blackcurrant, a crazy Paris-Brest and other curiosities such as the Insolite (a fruity dacquoise, praline mousse twisted with a blood orange jelly lollipop), or the half macaroon covered with caramelized apples and yuzu.

We love: The brioche perdue (vanilla custard + caramelized brioche, 6 €) which will lift you out of your winter depression.

Instagram: pas encore d’Instagram pour cette boutique, mais déjà beaucoup de posts.

Loir dans la Théière

3 rue des Rosiers, (Paris 4e)

You’re late for tea! In the heart of the Marais, come and make up for your delay in this Lewis Caroll-style world.

Here you will feel like you are plunging into the masterpiece of literature that is Alice in Wonderland. you will witness a very confusing decoration which is nonetheless charming.

This establishment was originally specialized in brunches but its sweets have already reached all the networks.

We love: Their XXL lemon cream pie (who knows, it might make you grow up like the little girl).

The shop was launched in 2011 as one of the very first vegan shops in Paris and is still successful.

Now a reference in terms of gourmet veganism, this shop offers a wide choice of sweets all of which are made from organic, plant-based products, with zero waste, and the energy used to power the shop is even renewable.

Cupcake, Panna Cotta, Tarts, Flans, Cakes, Cheesecakes, Cookies, Chocolate domes… you will have no more excuses to consume consciously.

We love: The multitude of cupcakes (Pumpkin-Cinnamon-Chocolate / Orange Blossom-Rose-Almond / Pineapple-Raspberry etc.).

VG

̶ THE VEGAN WEAVER

123 boulevard Voltaire, Paris, France

Although it is often referred to as the oldest vegetarian pastry shop in Paris, like Vegan Folie’s, this shop is nevertheless quite different from the previous one.

Here the vegan objective is cleverly taken up since the pastries such as the ones seen in the window resemble traditional French pastries.

No cupcakes, cookies or carrot cakes, but rather Trianon chocolat, Macaron mûres-violettes, Tarte tatin à la mangue, Paris Brest, Chausson aux pommes.

Enough to trap even the die-hard Gauls.

We love: Mango and speculoos tarte tatin.

Coming from an “intuitively vegetarian” family, Rodolphe Landemaine, an accomplished baker and pastry chef, now covers the capital and its surroundings with his 15 shops and 250 employees.

Previously, this chef had already secretly included a few vegan recipes in his shops, but he needed something more distinct; that’s when Land and Monkeys was born. A real revolution in the land of the croissant.

A very wide range of products that copies the entire offer of an excellent Parisian bakery… with zero animal products. Even Pierre Hermé was blown away.

We love: the chocolate bread, deliciously soft with an excellent vegan chocolate developed exclusively with the Valrhona company.

Come and take a break in the first tiramisu bar in France. This Italian dessert has been on the rise for a few years now. It is not uncommon to see it on the menu of many restaurants and fast foods.

However, don’t be fooled, only a few of them have a real Italian know-how. Here, you will be sure to eat a REAL tiramisu as they do in Veneto.

This shop offers a pre-made menu, but you can also create your own tiramisu from scratch. This should be enough to convince the whole family.

We love: The Raspberry-Nutella tiramisu.

Aux Deux Canelés

̶ THE CANELÉ EXPERTS

72 rue de la Verrerie, Paris, France

Une publication partagée par Aux deux canelés (@auxdeuxcaneles)

Two friends, Aude and Aude, have been offering the most original sweet and savory canelés here for three years.

As for the recipes, the base of the sweet canelé is traditional with rum and vanilla, a crunchy and caramelized crust on the outside and a soft interior.

However, the tradition ends here, because at Les Deux Canelés, you can taste generous canelés prepared with fresh and high-quality products. Original, hearty and well-decorated, these canelés will arouse you.

We love: the Apricot/Basilic canelé.

Beignets d’Amour

̶ THE ROLLS ROYCE OF DOUGHNUTS

Une publication partagée par Beignets d’Amour (@beignetsdamour)

Halfway between cream puffs and mini-doughnuts, this establishment is a real gustatory revolution in the country of the madeleine. This shop modernizes this little American sweet by giving it a chic French touch.

The doughnuts are always offered in boxes, with eight different flavors. Once you have selected the size of the box,  (24, 36 or 125 doughnuts), you can choose between the chef’s selection or the flavors of the moment, which change according to the season.

We love: The incredible toppings (sweets, flowers, chocolate, fruit) of these wonders.

The French Donuts

̶ THE KING OF THE FRENCH DONUT

56 rue de La Bruyère, Paris, France

Since France is the capital of gastronomy, it is normal for us to try to teach the Americans this craft. This is why The French Donuts wanted to recreate this world while remaining concerned about quality.

Here, the products are local, French and ethical (flour from the mill, PDO butter, brown sugar… the shop window specifies that the donuts are prepared every morning, one by one, with 0% additives, 0% preservatives).

Don’t worry, the doughnuts are still as thick and tasty as you like them.

On the menu: the donut of kings with frangipane glaze, a tatin-style donut with caramelized apples in the oven and whipped cream, a tropézienne-style donut topped with a light vanilla cream, a Nutella marshmallow donut, and for the kids: fun and simple skewers to eat.

We love: The ROCKY ROAD donut (milk chocolate ganache and Cacao Barry icing, topped with chocolate cookie chips) and the Rocky Road donut (milk chocolate, set with red fruit and vanilla marshmallows, fruit paste and chocolate shortbread).

Come and take a trip to this American diner-like shop. This cupcake specialist, which is located in the Marais, will take you on a journey through its flavors, each more original than the last.

The quintessence of the American snack: dozens of cupcakes in the craziest of flavors: Oreo, poppy, carambar… as well as cheesecake… An explosion of calories!

We love: Their box of 48 classical cupcakes and their refined toppings; enough to impress your host at a diner.

Taiyaki Paris

̶ A MATTER OF SEA BREAM

44 avenue d’Ivry, Paris, France

Voir cette publication sur Instagram

Une publication partagée par Taiyaki Paris (@taiyakiparis)

Firstly, a quick lesson on Japanese Taiyaki: taiyaki actually means “cooked sea bream” (sea bream being a sign of luck in Japan).

Don’t worry, it has only kept the name (not the taste). Originally it was filled with anko, a sweet red bean paste, but over time the Japanese developed the custard, chocolate and even a savory version.

You may have already seen some on the networks as these marvels are increasingly exported.

At Taiyaki Paris you can also try sweet recipes with a plain or chocolate waffle in which you can add whatever you like (anko, vanilla cream, Nutella, chestnut cream, peanut butter, or even the ice cream flavor of your choice) and then add a topping (strawberry, chocolate or caramel, speculoos, Oreo, pralines or M&M’s)

Or you can try some savory recipes; you will have four possibilities. Ham and honey, goat cheese and honey, Philadelphia and dried tomatoes or hot dog style with ketchup and mustard.

Something to please all taste buds, even the vegetarians!

We love: The iced Taiyaki (very Instagrammable).

At Rose Bakery the food is healthy, comfortable and seasonal. This small, typically Parisian cantine found itself in the international desserts category thanks to its incredible homemade carrot cake.

In Paris, people never stop talking about it because it reminds us of the flavor of the carrot cakes in Notting Hill.

We love: The location: rue des Martyrs, a must-go in Paris.

Maison Gazelle

̶ THE MOROCCAN HORN PARADISE

2 rue Jean-Macé (Paris 11e)

Une publication partagée par Maison Gazelle ® (@maisongazelle)

Oriental pastry lovers, forget everything you know about the sugar-coated Algerian gazelle horns and discover the Moroccan gazelle horns at Maison Gazelle.

Much thinner than Algerian gazelle horns, they come in 7 flavors (orange blossom / rose water / lemon and cardamom / Bronte pistachio / roasted almonds and sesame seeds / cocoa and bergamot / Piedmont hazelnut) and are accompanied by cold-pressed almond milk or ice cream.

The main advantage is that everything is prepared from carefully selected products in Morocco (Roussi almonds, Riffi almonds, Beldi almonds…). And that’s not all! The pure orange blossom water is distilled by hand between Fez and Casablanca, as is the rose water. A top-of-the-range gazelle horn that is worth the detour.

We love: The salted gazelle horns offered by the establishment.

    The unusuals

    Privé de Dessert

    ̶ 100% STUNNING

    4 rue Lallier (Paris 9)

Privé de Dessert will shake up everything you thought you knew about pastry. Here it is better not to trust appearances because everything you eat will be savory. Yes, you read that right, no need to refresh the page.

    On the menu:

For starters, at Privé de Dessert you can choose between the Paris-Brest (with duck breast), the chocolate pie (in fact with chicken confit and its cocoa chicken juice), the opera (salmon berries and barley bread), the milkshake (tomato and mozza gazpacho) and the pancakes (blinis and sea bream ceviche).

As for the dishes, it’s Saint-Honoré (burger), waffle, banana split (red tuna and roasted plantain) or crumble (cod with vegetables and Thai sauce, covered with a savory, crumble of course).

What about dessert then? Well, the desserts are named after the dishes: you’ll have to decide between the hotpot (pudding), the spaghetti carbonare (lemon meringue pie) or the fried egg. This Caribbean-influenced dish is actually composed of a white chocolate and coconut mousse, a mango-passion cream and shortbread.

We love: The “Oeuf au plat” dessert with its mango cream which perfectly embodies the role of the egg.

    Le Comptoir du Ritz Paris

    ̶ LIQUID PASTRY

    38 Rue Cambon, Paris, France

You might say that the quality follows the name, and you are not wrong. Le Comptoir du Ritz is neither more nor less than the pastry shop/tea room of the hotel located a few steps away from it. As you will have understood, the decoration is nice and luxurious, the tea room is chic: in short, French charm.

The real originality is introduced by the chef François Perret: the drinkable pastries. In fact, in addition to being able to choose from a range of exceptional pastries, you can also choose from 3 pastry drinks: Madeleine, Cake Marbré or Barquette Caramel.

A novelty that overturns the dogmas of French gastronomy.

We love: The Madeleine pastry drink.

    Cupkie

̶ THE 1st RAW COOKIE SHOP

    26 Rue Monge, Paris, France

This American phenomenon has crossed the Atlantic to set up residence in rue Monge in Paris. At first, the raw cookie dough (also called Cookie Dough) evoked nothing more than a Ben and Jerry’s flavor. Today you can enjoy it on the spot or to go.

The first question is whether this raw dough is digestible? Well, yes, because the homemade recipes are egg-free, gluten-free, sweetener-free, low in sugar and made from a special flour that is heat-treated to prevent bacteria.

The brand offers a multitude of toppings (chocolate chips, meringue, caramel chips, hazelnuts, pecans, cereals, granola, kiwi, banana, strawberry, raspberry, hazelnut praline, deer chips, Kinder Bueno, puffed rice…) as well as six ice cream flavors.

As the old saying goes, “Better late than never”.

So what are you waiting for?

We love: The limited edition of January: The Cupkie Frangipane.

    Les Commères

̶ A WEAVING BAR IN THE MIDDLE OF PIGALLE

31 rue Victor Massé, Paris, France

    Voir cette publication sur Instagram

Une publication partagée par Les Commères (@les_commeres_paris)

It’s not surprising that this shop is one of the most popular on this list, as it combines two passions shared by many French people: Cocktails and Pastries. The perfect spot to combine Happy Hour and Snack. A concept that many might find very strange but which is very popular in this area (not to say in all of Paris).

Here the sweet creations are made up to the minute at the counter and can accompany your cocktails for a delicious combination of flavors.

We love: The pairings (associations of cocktails and pastries) set by the team. Our favorite: The “Gin taille haute” (gin, elderflower liqueur, grapefruit syrup, basil leaf) accompanied by its coffee/praline Entremet.

    La Taverne de Zhao

̶ THE MOST FAMOUS GREEN FLAN

49 rue des Vinaigriers (Paris 10)

    Voir cette publication sur Instagram

Une publication partagée par ZHAO GROUPE (@latavernedezhao)

The Taverne de Zhao is a small Chinese restaurant with a garish red façade (a bit old-fashioned, I grant you). Right now you’re thinking: We were talking about desserts at the beginning, why is she talking about an Asian restaurant?

Well, this restaurant has become a favorite since its Green Tea Flan has been posted on the internet.

So, at La Taverne de Zhao, even if it’s not the point of this article, you can eat traditional and authentic Chinese dishes, but above all: you can taste this sweet floral dessert.

We love it: the Green Tea Flan.
