Some Parisian hotels, often highlighted by renowned guides, don’t live up to their reputation.. Here are 5 overrated Parisian hotels, recommended by CN Traveler, TimeOut and Fodor’s, that have disappointed their customers.
1. Hotel Les Jardins de Montmartre
This hotel was highlighted in TimeOut’s article The 83 best hotels in Paris in just about every district. However, it is rated 3.5/5 on Tripadvisor.
Located in the charming quarter of Montmartre, the Hotel Les Jardins de Montmartre attracts many tourists thanks to its picturesque location.
However, the bedrooms are remarkably small, a recurrent problem in Paris, but it’s particularly noteworthy here.
Furthermore, the soundproofing seriously leaves a lot to be desired, especially from the elevator, which can be heard loud and clear.
The noises emanating from the street and other bedrooms can disturb the customers’ peace, compromising the quality of their stay.
2. Generator Paris
Also highlighted in TimeOut’s article The 83 best hotels in Paris in just about every district, this hotel is rated 7.3/10 on Booking.
The Generator Paris, a trendy hotel popular among young travelers and groups, unfortunately suffers from serious hygiene problems.
Although this establishment is appreciated for its friendly ambiance and its modern communal areas, the bedrooms and the hotel in general lack cleanliness.
Complaints about dirty bedsheets, bathrooms, and public areas are frequent, which can seriously affect the visitor experience.
3. Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel
This one was also praised in TimeOut’s article The 83 best hotels in Paris in just about every district, this hotel (what’s the deal?) is rated 7.3/10 on Booking.
The Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel is a 5-star hotel located in an enviable place near the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries, making it a popular choice among affluent tourists.
However, a major critique that is regularly heard is the size of the bedrooms.
They’re described as cramped, with little space to move, and the services don’t seem to be lacking, which can be disappointing for a hotel of this caliber.
4. Hotel Les Deux Gares
This hotel is highlighted in CN Traveler’s article The 52 Best Hotels in Paris. However, it is rated 3.5/5 on Tripadvisor.
The Hotel Les Deux Gares, although located between the two main Parisian train stations (Gare du Nord et Gare de l’Est), shows several significant flaws.
Shower problems are common, with unstable temperatures and water leaks, making the use of the bathrooms unpleasant.
Moreover, the breakfast lacks variety and generosity, which disappoints many customers who expect a better service for the price.
5. Port Royal Hotel
The Port Royal Hotel is indicated by Fodor’s as one of the best hotels in Paris in the article Best Hotels in Paris. But it is only rated 7.4/10 on Booking.
This hotel, although more basic than the others mentioned above, has several major cons.
For some rooms, toilets and showers are located outside of the room, which is a significant inconvenience for many travelers. On average, the rooms cost USD 163 (EUR 150) per night, with an extra of USD 2.72 (EUR 2.50) for a 5-minute long shower.
On top of that, soundproofing is almost nonexistent, which means that the noise coming from the hallways and other rooms can seriously hinder the customers’ rest.
These factors contribute to a bad global price-quality ratio.
