9/10: France Hotel Guide expert rating

With a name including “Bourguignon” in it, it is of no surprise that the  ‘Burgundian beef” (boeuf bourguignon) is this restaurant’s specialty. Amongst other Burgundian specialties, it is perfectly cooked by the Delcher family.

The dish is served in a warm, little cast-iron casserole and the meat just melts in your mouth. You wonder what the restaurant’s approach regarding the high quality of their products is? Its short menu that guarantees the mastery of its dishes. Quality over quantity!
So, if you are looking for a calm shelter, away from all the agitations of the city, choose the Bourguignon du Marais. Its charming crew will advise you properly regarding their wines.

Our advice: It would be a good idea to book a table beforehand.

5) Joséphine Chez Dumonet

Wine Glasses red

8.9/10 : France Hotel Guide expert rating

A top-of-the-shelf address! If there is one place of which you’re sure to never leave disappointed it’s this one!
Enormous portions of boeuf bourguignon with lightly buttered tagliatelli… portions so big that you will be offered half-servings (which are big enough in and of themselves)  by the waiters and waitresses if you choose multiple dishes. The same applies to even desserts as they are also large enough to be shared two!

Authentic, with its yesteryear charm, high-quality products and excellent wine list, this restaurant is just as good as the capital’s major ones.
But of course, with such a reputation, Josephine chez Dumonet is often booked. Sometimes you may even have to plan your booking several days ahead.

So hurry up!

We love: the half-servings which allow you to taste more things. It would be a shame not to!

What is the Le P’tit Troquet of Paris all about? A traditional menu, rustic decor and, of course, an excellent boeuf bourguignon!

Since 2011, the establishment’s chef (and owner), José Madueno, cooks traditional French dishes in this restaurant. And they are to be eaten in a warm atmosphere, near the Champ-de-Mars and, therefore, near the Eiffel Tower! What else could you ask for regarding a typical French meal?
Richer than you could possibly imagine and perfectly seasoned, the P’tit Troquet’s boeuf bourguignon is served in its casserole dish with a great number of carrots, potatoes and mushrooms. There’s certainly enough to fill and warm you up in there.

7) Le Clos Bourguignon

Salad plate white

7.8/10: France Hotel Guide expert rating

A little gem in a big department store-filled neighborhood, Le Clos Bourguignon stands out from everything around it. Between big chains and exotic food, it brings Burgandy to Paris… with all its culinary culture! They serve a traditional boeuf bourguignon, as it is made in the cottages and with high-quality meat.

This small and welcoming bistro has tables close to each other and exudes conviviality in contrast to the big, modern restaurants with their cold and spotless decor. It feels like a family Sunday afternoon.

    9) Chez Toinette

    Beef Bourguignon dish white

9/10: France Hotel Guide expert rating

Hiding in the rue Germain Pilon in the Montmartre district, this small, secret address is a wonderful discovery. The intimate interior of this restaurant -with its red walls and its limited number of tables- sets the stage for a discreet encounter with French gastronomy. With dimmed lighting and thoughtful owners, at Toinette’s one gets away from the capital’s agitation to enjoy their plentiful dishes.

However, be careful, as their boeuf bourguignon is not always on the menu and is only available depending on the season. It is just as well since it is a guarantee of quality. In spite of that, if you come in winter then, don’t worry you are almost sure to be able to taste it!

Nevertheless, just to be sure, call them beforehand.

We love: the owners! Smile and human warmth are omnipresent.

    Boeuf bourguignon’s price: around €20

    10) Le Café des Musées

    Bar counter wood restaurant

9.6/10: France Hotel Guide expert rating

Coined as Paris’ best boeuf bourguignon, it is needless to extol this restaurant or its signature dish. Meltingly soft, flavorful, and served richly in its saucepan along with potatoes and carrots, all swimming in a creamy sauce, it will delight you to no end.
However, we can tell you about the crew who keep up the restaurant’s reputation. They are always prompt to advise you on the best wines, sides, and even to tell you about the story of each dish or wine and the craftsmen behind them who work on their creation. It is a crew which knows and shares its restaurant’s values.

Therefore, it comes to no surprise that Le Café des Musées is recommended everywhere from Japan to the U.S., and through Korea and Australia! (Especially since the quality of their products is topped with a professional and welcoming service.)

Try it yourself, and see if its title is rightfully earned!

Good to know: be curious! Do not hesitate to ask questions about the dishes/wines/products you’re being served. Their good quality is important to the house, and the waiters and waitresses will be happy to showcase them.
