Dordogne is known for its gorges and rivers, so there are many opportunities for canoeing and kayaking.
To help you find your way around, we have compiled a list of the best places to rent canoes and go canoeing in the Dordogne region. Enjoy the region’s most beautiful landscapes with complete peace of mind!
Canoeing on the Vézère River
Itinerary: 19 km
Duration: 3 hours
Level: Family (from age 5)
Canoeing down the Vézère River is a smooth experience that everyone can do at their own pace.
After a few introductions and instructions at the meeting point, you will take a bus to the starting point before embarking on an approximately three-hour trip down the Vézère River.
This part of the Vézère is ideal for a family outing and it’s a superb way to enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

Canoe Trip with Rabaska Canoes
Itinerary: 7 or 12 km
Duration: 2 or 3 hours
Level: Family, big groups
The Rabaska canoes near Saint-Antoine-de-Breuilh are perfect for groups of friends or large families. A Rabaska canoe is a nine meter long Canadian canoe that can accommodate up to 15 rowers at a time.
The establishment offers two different routes: the Balade du Martin-Pêcheur (the Kingfisher Walk) and the Randonnée des Châteaux (the Castle Walk).
The Balade du Martin-Pêcheur lasts two hours and is seven kilometers long. You will go down the Dordogne towards Pessac while discovering the fauna and flora of the region.
The Randonnée des Châteaux lasts three hours and is a twelve kilometer route. You will pass by approximately ten castles that border the Dordogne.

Descents on the Dronne River with Allo Canoës

Allo Canoës is located in Brantôme, a village known as the Venice of the Périgord Vert. They offer several canoeing trips on the Dronne with different distances and durations to suit all tastes.
You might discover the village of Brantôme and its surroundings, the Fontaine d’Amour, or the Moulin le Grenier from either a single-seat kayak or a canoe that seats two or three people.

Canoë Attitude – Pro Sports 24

From its base in Gardonne in the southwestern part of the region, Pro Sports 24 offers numerous water sports along the Dordogne, including canoeing.
Several routes are available that will allow you to discover the towns of Bergerac, Lamonzie, and Le Fleix. On this part of the Dordogne, the river is lined with quays, mills, beaches, and a lot of greenery that provides shady routes where you can try to spot the many species of birds that live there.

Vert’Auvézère
Itinerary: around 6 km
Duration: around 2 hours
Level: Intermediate to advanced
With Vert’Auvézère, you can paddleboard or canoe down the Auvézère River in the northeastern part of the region.
You can choose to go on an unguided trip or take a canoeing trip to Tourtoirac for half a day. The setting is pastoral and the river is lined with vegetation, making for a very pleasant trip.
The course of the Auvézère can fluctuate seasonally, and a few difficult dams and small rapids might spice up your adventure. This course is not for canoeists who might be frightened by a few rough passages!

Limeuil Canoeing is situated at the point where the Dordogne and Vézère rivers meet, allowing them to offer beautiful trips on both rivers.
The establishment will transport you from Limeuil to your departure point so that you only have to paddle back to the base of Limeuil.
From your canoes, you will be able to see many species of animals (swans, herons, egrets, and birds of prey) and enjoy the rich heritage of the region, including castles, caves, and troglodyte dwellings.

The Castelnaud-la-Chapelle Canoe Kayak establishment offers several itineraries of varying distances on the Dordogne River.
Bordered by cliffs, hanging gardens, and castles, this section of the Dordogne River is a beautiful place to paddle with family and friends. The section is easy to navigate, allowing you to fully enjoy the scenery.
Please note that while there are shuttle buses to take you to the starting point, the shuttle only runs once in the morning for some of the longer trips. Be sure you don’t miss it!

Regardless of the itinerary you choose, the banks of the river are particularly charming in this area, and you can even take a little swimming break on the banks of the Dordogne.
