Summer in Paris often rhymes with much heat and even heat wave. For those who cannot handle the blazing sun that hits the Parisian streets, we suggest to the swimming enthusiasts and the others 5 addresses that will help you handle the summer heat in the capital city.
1) The Emilie Anthoine pool – The one with a great view
The Emilie Anthoine pool: Settled in the very chic 15th arrondissement of the capital, this pool in the only one in Paris where you will find such a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. Between two lengths, you will be able to admire the Iron Lady as well as the very chic decorations of the building.
The pool is mainly occupied by skilled swimmers who are not afraid to impose themselves to have their way in the water.
Address:
Emilie Anthoine: 9 rue Jean Rey, Paris 15ème.
M6 and RER C: Station Champ de Mars – Bir Hakeim
Price: 3.50 Euros full-price and 2 Euros reduced price.
2) The Joséphine Baker pool – The original
The Joséphine Baker pool: First things first, this small barge that faces the François Mitterrand library in the 13th arrondissement is a bargain. However, once you are in, you will find a wide 25-meter pool hidden under the solariums that warm it up.
Popular and approachable, this pool that is rather used by skilled swimmers attracts a lot of people during the summer days. If you want to avoid the crowds, we advise you to go early in the morning in order to enjoy the first rays of sun that wake the city up.
Address:
Joséphine Baker: quai de la Gare, Paris 13ème
M6: Station Quai de la Gare or M14: Station Bibliothèque François Mitterrand
Price: 4 Euros full-price and 2.20 Euros reduced price
3) The Georges Vallarey pool – The one to swim and get a tan
Thanks to the Georges Vallerey pool, you will get to swim and to make the most of the sun rays of the summer. This pool has a sunroof which will allow you to get a tan while swimming.
This time again, this pool is mostly used by great swimmers, as it is an Olympic pool (with one pool of 50meters and another one of 25meters), but you can still enjoy the sun and perfect your tan on the terraces that surround it.
Address:
Georges Vallerey, 148 avenue Gambetta, Paris 20ème.
M3bis and M11: Station Porte des Lilas
Price: 3.50 Euros full-price and 2 Euros reduced price.
4) The Neuilly Aquatic Center – The one to go with family
For those who want to cool down without doing lengths, we advise to go to the very pleasant Aquatic Center of Neuilly-Sur-Seine. This Center has three interior pools: a sporty one, one for those who are learning how to swim and one to hang around. There is also a small exterior pool for those who want to get a tan. In the “Espace forme” (“fit area”), you will find a spa, a sauna, a Turkish bath and tanning booths.
The garden that runs alongside of the center is open to the public and will allow you to lounge under the sunlight for a long time. The center is obviously more family-oriented than sporty, since the swimming pool may be unfit for expert swimmers, especially during rushing hours. The price exceeds 5 Euros; however, for such service and the warm welcome, it is worth it.
Address:
Aquatic Center of Neuilly-Sur-Seine: 27-31 boulevard d’Inkermann 92200 Neuilly-Sur-Seine
M1: Station Les Sablons or M3: Station Louise Michel
Price: 8 Euros during summer for the non-residents.
5) Aquaboulevard – The one that does it big
If you want to see the big picture, we advise to go to the Aquaboulevard pool that has (amongst others) 10 enormous slides, wave pools, numerous Jacuzzis, an outside pool, even an against the current river and many other water games.
Of course, as soon as the good days arrive, Parisians rush there. We advise you to avoid going on weekends, and to go rather at the end of the day (especially on Sunday nights) to avoid the crowds in the gigantic pools. As the entry is quite expensive, we also recommend you enjoy the experience to the fullest and to splash around for at least a few hours.
Address:
Aquaboulevard pool: 324 rue Louise Armand, Paris 15ème.
M8: Station Balard
Price: 33 Euros full-price and 19 Euros reduced price.
