Alençon is a town in Normandy with an exceptional historical and cultural heritage. The first building to visit in Alençon is probably the Halle au Ble (Wheat Halle), on top of which rests a spendid glass dome. The Cite des Metiers is today located there. In the pedestrian district of old town Alençon, you should pay a visit to the Notre-Dame church whose stone is cut as thin as lace. Alençon has in fact been a centre for know-how in making lace since the XVth century. The Museum of Beaux Arts and Lace (Musee des Beaux Arts et de la Dentelle) of Alençon exhibits many different types of traditional laces which are quite amazing.
