About this place
The Chateau-Vieux of Bayonne is built on the ruins of the Roman castrum. The gothic Saint-Marie of Bayonne cathedral is on the road to Santiago de Compostello. Every year, in August, the Bayonne fiesta is held, with pelota, music and dance, bullfights, bull runs, floats, concerts, balls, toros de fuego and fireworks. White clothes and red scarf are de rigueur. In the capital of the Basque country, you can savour a piperade with Bayonne ham and enjoy touron, Basque nougat.
