Obernai is a typical town of Alsace, with many superb half-timbered houses. Obernai is in a major wine-growing area and is also the home of the best beers of Alsace. In summer, you can visit the hop fields. The Kapellturm contains the public clock of the town, dating from 1473. It is the last vestige of the Chapel of the Virgin that once stood in Obernai. Alsace is famous for its splendid Christmas markets, and Obernai has its own. In December, in between the market stalls, you could sip mulled wine and munch on bredele biscuits.
