Macon is the southernmost city of Burgundy. Its brick roofs, coloured building fronts and lively terraces give it a look of a Southern city.
Macon is known across the world for its vines, which provide Maconnais-Beaujolais wines. Macon is the city of the famous poet Lamartine. A museum located in the hotel Senece is entirely devoted to his work. On the Place aux Herbes stands the Maison de Bois, the oldest construction in Macon. Its façade is decorated with a multitude of little statuettes.
