La Roche-sur-Yon is a town in Vendee largely founded by the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Surrounded by water and greenery, La Roche-sur-Yon offers all the advantages of a large town combined with the delights of nature. In the heart of La Roche-sur-Yon, the Haras National (stud farm) covers 4.5 hectares. It still exists today to preserve the ancient farrier's crafts. St. Louis's church in La Roche-sur-Yon contains a superb barrel vault painted with a trompe l'oeil, which gives the effect of an even more impressive monumental architecture.
