The Pays de la Loire offer an incredible variety of destinations. Thousands of castle are there, some of them having been inhabited by the same family for centuries! The most famous castles are the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany in Nantes ou the Castle of Angers, both of them dating from the 13th century. Others, like the castle of Brissac or that of Montsoreau are marvels of the Renaissance. Several well-know resorts are to be found along the Atlantic coast. The most popular is certainly La Baule-Le Pouliguen-Pornichet on the Cote d'Amour, with the longest beach in Europe and magnificent hotels. On the other side of the estuary of the Loire river, Pornic also has a nice beach plus a very typical port. A little bit more to the south, in Vendee, Les Sables-d'Olonne is another sought-after resort with a beach, a pine forest and a superb yachting port. If you feel like it, perhaps while on the boat, a Gamay wine from Anjou or a Muscadet from Nantes will undoubtedly sharpen your appetite for other dishes from the Pays de Loire. Don't drink too much wine though, especially if you are planning to drive to the 24 hours of Le Man car race, one of the most famous in the world!
