One of the most famous attraction in Languedoc-Roussillon is certainly the Pont du Gard, which was built in Roman times and is almost 50 meters high. The Pont du Gard bridged an aqueduct all the way from Uzes to Nimes. The town of Nimes itself has several monuments dating back to Roman times, the most renowned of which being the Arena of Nimes, the world's best preserved Roman arena. Carcassonne is another jewel of Languedoc-Roussillon. The Cité de Carcassonne encompasses the whole of the upper town of Carcassonne inside of medieval fortifications. Montpellier, the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, has a superb historical centre with magnificent mansions dating from the 17th and 18th century. The Mediterranean coast of Languedoc-Roussillon counts many sought-after resorts. Cap d'Age with its 11 beaches probably attracts the most attention. If you drive on towards Perpignan, you can find other amazing beaches close to Canet-en-Roussillon. The wind here is much appreciated by windsurf and kitesurf aficionados, and from the see one can watch the snow still on top of the Pyrenee moutains!
