It is on the Grand'Place and the Place des Heros in Arras that you can admire superb specimens of 17th century Flemish architecture, with their gables, arcades and boves. Behind the town hall stands the belfry of the city surmounted by the Lion of Arras. Place de la Madeleine, right near the superb cathedral of Saint Vaast, is the Museum of Fine Arts of Arras with medieval sculptures and paintings by masters. Opposite the theatre is the Ostel des Poissonniers, a Baroque building dating from 1710, with a front decorated with mermaids and fish.
