Calais is ideally located at the limit between the English Channel and the North Sea, off the English coasts. The French entrance of the Channel tunnel is there. Calais is also known for laces which are made in the famous Haute Couture houses. A museum in Calais is entirely devoted to laces fabrication. The Tour du Guet and the Citadel are evidence of Calais medieval past. Fort Risban and Fort-Nieulay were also used for a long time for protection of the town.
