In 1873, an Italian magician who went by the name of Bobino set up shop in the Rue de la Gaité to present his tricks. It was there that one of the most famous cabarets in Paris was born. And yet it was 1918 before the conjurer's wooden hut became a proper building. Bobino was then at the height of his fame, and his shows featured the biggest names in French show business, Georges Brassens, Josephine Baker, Fernandel and even Coluche. Then, in 1983, Bobino fell on hard times and was forced to close. It was Philippe Bouvard who gave it back some of its former glory, reopening it in 1991 under the name of "Studio Bobino" as a venue for shows and tv programmes. Since 2007, Bobin'o, as it is now known, has become the most sought-after Cabaret-lounge in the capital. Today, it offers a huge restaurant-auditorium and a lounge bar where Parisians and tourists can come and enjoy shows.
