Tourist Information
In Paris's 9th arrondissement, the Grands Magasins, or department stores, appeared towards the end of the 19th century, with Printemps being built in 1864 and the Galeries Lafayette appearing in 1894.
These 2 department stores, located on the Boulevard Haussmann, not far from the Place de l'Opéra (or Opera Square) attract thousands of tourists from the world over each day, as well as Parisians who come for the perfumery, fashion, luggage and luxury goods, all against a uniquely decorated backdrop.
Whether you are on a voyage of discovery or just doing some shopping, you will be enchanted by the atmosphere, the superb presentation of the goods and the beauty of the displays that make up the ground floors of these department stores, particularly towards the end of the year when Christmas decorations are up.
