Tourist Information In 1977, the President of the Republic, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, decided to renovate and transform the La Villette quarter in the XIXth arrondissement of Paris. A few years later a museum of science, technology and industry known as the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie opened. It is one of the largest scientific museums in Europe. The Cité's mission is to render scientific knowledge accessible to all thanks to fun hands-on exhibitions. Even the youngest visitors can lean as they play at the Cité des Enfants with exhibitions specially designed for 3 to 12 year olds. The Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie also offers, as well as its exhibition space, a specialised media library and a conference centre open to all. 6 May 1985 saw the inauguration of the Géode, an exceptional cinema consisting of a giant hemispherical screen 26 metres in diameter, which shows films on scientific themes.
