Tourist Information
The Arch at La Défense (the Grande Arche) is located in the La Défense business district and was built in 1989. Today, the 110 meter high arch is used as office space.
This exercise in modern architecture was completed by President François Mitterrand following on from his predecessors' earlier projects.
The Grande Arche de la Défense was opened in July 1989.
The Grande Arche was built along an east-west line through the center of Paris that already linked the Arc de Triomphe at Place de l'Étoile, the Obelisk at the Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe at the Louvre traffic circle. The outer surface of the Grand Arche is covered in glass.
The Arch at La Défense is served by multiple train, Metro, tram and bus lines.
