The Grande Halle de la Villette, the former Villette Cattle Market, has been a listed historical monument since 1979. It was built between 1865 and 1867. In 1985, the Great Hall at La Villette was transformed into a convention center and showcase theater for cultural events, with a refurbishment being completed in 2007.
Since 1993, the Foundation for the Grande Halle de La Villette and La Villette Park has run the center and its cultural programs.
