Tourist Information
The Arab World Institute is situated in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, on the banks of the Seine. Opened in 1987, the Arab World Institute is housed in a building designed by Jean Nouvel, an architect who has succeeded in conveying the alliance between the western world and Arab culture. This building is devoted to the knowledge and understanding of Arab culture. Twenty-two Arab countries joined with France to set up this fabulous museum, which recounts the history of Arab-Islamic civilisation from its origins to the present day. At the museum of the Arab World Institute, you can see popular paintings, objets d'art, Arab-Muslim miniatures, calligraphies from the Koran. There is also a section devoted to contemporary art from the Arab countries. The Arab World Institute aims to reach all those to wish to learn more about the culture of the Arab world, its language, its civilisation, its art, its history... http://www.imarabe.org/
