At No. 6, Place Saint Germain des Prés, in the 6th arrondissement, the name of the "Deux Magots" dates from 1812, when the site was occupied by a store selling curios. In 1885, the store became a café but kept its name.
The "Deux Magots" café has always played a role in the cultural life of Paris. It was the hangout for many artists including Jean Giraudoux, Pablo Picasso, Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Jacques Prévert.
Today, the "Deux Magots" is one of the oldest surviving cafés in Paris.
