Tourist Information
The Marmottan-Monet Museum is situated in the La Muette quarter, opposite the Jardin de Ranelagh. Its collections dating from the Empire period and its numerous Impressionist canvases have earned it its reputation. It was in 1934 that the museum was set up in a private mansion that once belonged to Paul Marmottan, an art historian with a passionate interest in the Napoleonic period, who bequeathed his home and all his collection to the Institut de France. Thus, the Marmottan-Monet Museum offers an extraordinary collection of furniture and tapestries from the Empire period. Thanks to numerous donations, in particular on the part of one of the sons of Claude Monet, the Marmottan-Monet museum also houses an important collection of Impressionist works. The permanent collection includes over 100 masterpieces by the great painter who was the leader of the Impressionists, Claude Monet, including the famous "Impression Rising Sun". Alongside this exceptional work, we can admire canvases by Pissaro, Gauguin, Degas and Renoir. Finally, the Marmottan-Monet Museum offers a unique collection of illuminations dating from the XIIth to the XVIth centuries. You will find this highly original museum in the XVIth arrondissement of Paris, Metro station Muette. http://www.marmottan.com/
