The Opéra Bastille was inaugurated in 1989 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of taking of the Bastille. It is the second opera house in the City of Paris, with the Opéra Garnier. This opera house, with its resolutely modern architecture, aims to be popular in order to make classical music accessible to all.
