Tourist Information
The Place de la République (Republic Square) is situated on the edge of the 3rd, 10th and 11th districts of Paris. It dates from 1854: the era of Baron Haussmann, who built a barracks there.
The Place de la République, a rectangular public square of 280m by 120m, is the starting point for the Boulevard Magenta, the Avenue de la République, the Boulevard Voltaire, the Rue de Turbigo and the Boulevard Saint Martin.
The Republic Statue watches over the center of the square, topped by a bronze freeze and telling the story of the Republic’s first century.
Five metro lines and numerous bus routes cross the Place de la République. Major renovations have been underway since 2008.
