Tourist Information
At the heart of the 5th district is the Place Monge. It owes its name to Gaspard Monge (1746 - 1818) who was a French mathematician and founder of the École Polytechnique.
He also participated in the establishment of the École Normale Supérieure. The Rue Mouffetard neighborhood, the Jardin des Plantes (botanical gardens) and the Lutetia Arenas are all located nearby.
