In 1928 "the Mousquetaires" of French tennis won the famous Davis Cup and Paris decided to build a stadium deserving of its heroes. This is how the Roland-Garros stadium was born, a set of clay tennis courts situated on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne woods in Paris. It has 24 courts, the most famous and also the biggest of which is the Central Court. It is also since this date that the French Open has taken place at Roland-Garros, a competition what will soon take on the name of the stadium where it is held. Over time, Roland-Garros has become an unmissable event for numerous tennis fans, and its unique clay surface will have got the better of the greatest champions! This history-filled place has decided to offer its public rather more than just a competition. Thus, since 2003, we can also visit the Tenniseum, first multimedia museum devoted to tennis. In the permanent exhibition hall almost 4,400 hours of audiovisual programmes are broadcast, with archive film, summaries of historic matches, interviews with great champions to delight the fans of Roland-Garros. The museum has also opened a library, where over 3 000 documents on tennis and real tennis can be consulted. For the lovers of the great tournament, it is possible to visit the stadium, the zone reserved for the players, the cloakroom, the press centre, the Philippe-Chatrier court, there will be nothing you won't know about Roland-Garros!
